You will process this transaction on 2 occasions. The most common situation is where you want to cancel a current QLD registration, the second is when you have purchased a vehicle from interstate and want to re-register in QLD. It is very important to always have the number plates in front of you when processing this transaction as it should never be processed when the plates are still attached to a vehicle. This transaction will also be processed as part of a replacement plate transaction (see here for information on how to do this), however remember that you will only surrender stock number plates, never a customers personalised/customised number plates. Remember, that it is an offence to sell a vehicle with the number plates and windscreen label still attached where the registration has either expired or been cancelled.

Where do I send my surrendered number plates? Your surrendered number plates need to be sent in with your TRAILS filing. As Recall Info Management are not QT, they do not confirm if the plates that they receive are surrendered correctly, or that paperwork has been processed correctly, it is an accredited operator’s responsibility to ensure that this has happened correctly.
